Remote flying at night brings a new level of Risk Management but what an incredible experience

I spent the other night on the westbound lane of the A40 with London behind me and Perivale ahead of me, with a great crown from @Hatton on a Traffic Management project, taking aerial images and videography of the traffic management for the works being carried out near Hanger Lane roundabout.

Hatton offers a complete range of Highway Services including Temporary Traffic Management (which I experienced first-hand) Road Restraint Systems, Permanent Sign Installations and Equipment hire. I arrived close to the site at a rendezvous point and met with my client, who whizzed me off in one of the safety vehicles to the centre of all the action. My brief was to provide aerial footage of the works being carried out on the A40 at night, to support the sales and marketing of the business and provide imagery to potential clients of night operations on one of the busiest main arteries into London.

Although the westbound A40 was closed to traffic, one lane was still open on the eastbound side into London and although I didn’t get to leave until about 3 am, there was a constant flow of traffic.

The A40 is an essential part of the flow of commuter traffic in and out of London and at its peak times will see 10,000 vehicles per hour, historically known as the Malfunction Junction by many locals and commuters, this road system which splits the A40 and the North Circular, has always been congested one of the issues with night flying is I had to provide a Day Time Risk Assessment (before going on site) to the client so they can feel reassured we are compliant with all the H&S requirements and are aware of any potential hazards like powerlines or telephone poles and as this is part of the HS2 project, getting the H&S compliance in place was essential.

If you are looking for a remote aerial videographer, get in touch to be kept safe and compliant.
